Earning Money with Staree

Are you looking to add an extra stream of income to your toolbox? Well if you have a massive following on Twitter and Facebook, you could be making an extra $2500 or more a year. Staree, owned by IZEA is a photo and video sharing service that integrates with Twitter and Facebook. When you, the ‘Celebrity’ share your media and people view it, Staree shares their earnings with you. They currently have an app for both iPhone and Android, and of course the website. Staree works sort of like Instagram. You can upload or take a picture, add some cool effects and share it to Twitter and Facebook. Unlike Instagram, Staree allows you to share videos too. They have not yet integrated a way to search for photo’s directly on the Staree site or smart phone applications. Once they add this functionality, people may see an increase in earnings. According to an admin at Staree, they may be working on this as we speak.

If you want a Staree account, they must first approve you. They can decline your application, if you do not exhibit a ‘Celebrity’ status online. For me, the process took almost a month. How do you make money with Staree?

Staree shows ads on the side of your pictures and videos. They use display advertising and product placement. With display advertising, Staree automatically takes 10% of the earnings and that goes towards fees for technology maintenance, hosting and infrastructure. Then, IZEA will split with you 50/50 the remaining balance. Not a bad gig, if you’re getting a lot of traffic. You need to be one of the top viewed to get product placement. If you do reach that status, IZEA will automatically take 15%. It is unclear how much money you make with product placement, but you could be making a lot more than just display ads. As of right now, I can’t find any information about minimum balance withdraw, but they will pay by mail or wire transfer.

How much can you make with Staree?

Staree wrote a blog post on May 28th claiming that you could be making an extra $2500 a year using this service.  They picked an anonymous Staree account and shared how much they’ve made so far, and extrapolated the earnings for a year. They claim the account had 120k followers on Twitter and 9.5k Likes on Facebook. The anonymous Staree user uploaded 28 pieces of content, not saying if it was pictures or videos. They made about $120 so far, which they calculated a daily earnings of $6.85 and a yearly earning of $2,500. But how much will the average person with only a few hundred followers make? Probably only a few cents or dollars, if that. You really need to have ‘Celebrity’ status online to be make a few thousand dollars a year, or even a few hundred.

How can you make more money with Staree?

I really haven’t tried any other ways, other than sharing them on Twitter and Facebook. What I can suggest is using Reddit. If you’ve got a great picture to share on Reddit, why not try using Staree instead of imgur? When you share your photo or video on Reddit, make sure you don’t use the shortened image URL. When you copy a link on Staree, it copies the shortened bit.ly URL. I’m guessing they want to keep track of where their traffic is coming from… Anyway, paste the shortened link into a browser and copy the long link, then share that on Reddit or anywhere else.

Is Staree really worth it?

If you’ve got tons of followers, do it! If you’re just the average Joe, just stick to Instagram. If Staree does implement a new discovery tool within their site, it might be a good way of making a few dollars. I’ll be testing Staree’s potential and may report back if I have some interesting data to share with you.
